It Started When They Said “I Do”.

Once upon a time, I was asked by a Grandmama to design a special bedroom for 5 little princesses who loved all things pink and green and sparkly and fun.

We had such a great time. I turned the dormers into kaleidoscopes with crystal chandeliers.

And there were dress up clothes and jewels and art supplies and all things pinkalicious.

Then the years went by….

OH, how they flew.

And those little girls grew up and became beautiful young women who, like their Grandmama, love The Lord.

The oldest became a majorette at my favorite university. That majorette fell in love with a handsome prince who just happened to be the head cheerleader/mic man.

One Saturday when the sun was shining brightly and the fans were filling the stadium Aubie came into the stands to ask the beautiful majorette to come with him.

And this is what happened next… (click on the picture)

Saturday, the Prince and the Princess added the fairy-tale ending as they married on grounds of her grandparents’ home, the one  that still has the pink and green bedroom.

And as a statement about what they want for their marriage, they chose her grandparents’ 55th wedding anniversary as their wedding date.

How sweet is that?

No more talking, I am just going to give you a snippet of what their precious day was like shot through the lens of my iphone. (and yes, I had permission to be snapping these pics. Can’t wait to see the professional ones.)

Loved this: “Today two families are becoming one. Please pick a seat, not a side”

I have never seen this done before but I LOVED it!! Just after the vows, Jesse and Sara left the platform and stood in the middle of the aisle. As Kim Hill led in worship the entire congregation surrounded the couple, laying hands on them and praying a blessing for their marriage. Great way to start I say.

Those five little girls (another has now been added) also had an adorable playhouse in the backyard. It served to anchor the children’s area at the reception which included child sized seating and an ice cream sundae bar.

And so you can see why I titled this, it STARTED when they said “I do.”  These two plan to make it last.  I believe they will.

Maybe someday there will be another little one whose eyes will sparkle in the light of the chandelier kaleidoscope window and the pinkalicious room, who will ride the rocky zebra and play in the secret wardrobe and paint in the artist studio.

Until then, enjoy the journey sweet Sara and Jesse. It’s been fun watching you grow.

And major kudos to wedding planner, Mary Sanders; caterer, Jennie Weller and flower girls extraordinaire, Gray Lillies and Jana Lupert.

xoxo

  • I love your blogs. You are as good a writer as you are a decorator…..and that’s pretty darn good in my book!

  • Cindy-
Thank you for sharing! Such a beautiful couple, and I love how they decorated.
Jere shared a couple of images on his fb page, but these pictures are amazing. Congratulations to them. By the way, the bedroom was one of my favorite projects.
