Beth Webb: An Eye For Beauty- Book Review

I am so far behind on posting that it is not even funny anymore. Sweet Beth Webb’s book has been sitting on my desk for about 2 months and today is the first chance I have had to even pick it up.

I have no idea how she found the time to write it. This is not just a pretty picture book. While the book is driven by the expected poignant photography of one of my favorite photographers, Emily Followill, Beth took an unexpected route and divided the book into 5 sections based on the five senses: sight, touch,sound,taste and scent.  As a lifestyle designer, this is how she thinks as she designs.

Beth paints wonderful pictures for us as she recalls memories of waking up in her grandparent’s homes in freshly ironed sheets with the warm sun on her skin and the smells of hot coffee and bacon frying while the grandfather clock in the hallway lazily ticked off the minutes.  The prose as well as the images with sweep you right along as you journey through her many wonderful projects-many award wining.

Here are some of my favorite images;

She had me at the beams.

It is easy to see why this made the cover. There are so many interesting elements that beg your eye to examine… that rug!!

The simplicity and organic nature of the following room really spoke to me. Why do I love that lamp so much?
