Discovering New Places

I have the best hubby in the world- no seriously. He took one look at me during the Enterprise move-in and realizing how tired I was he quietly got on line and found a delightful little bed and breakfast close by and booked it. It happened to have a side porch with my all-time favorite swing overlooking a garden. (They were setting up for a wedding) This is where I had my morning coffee.

The other end of the porch had a bed swing, one of my other favorite things. The painting on the wall is of the house.

I was happy. And FULL – you wouldn’t believe the size of that breakfast. Thank you Sweet Gum Bottom. We enjoyed our stay!

We love to explore new areas. You just never know what you will find. This time we saw a sign for a lodge and played follow the yellow brick  red dirt road to see what that was all about.

We ended up here.

I know, it looks a little spooky but imagine how pretty it will be when all of the azaleas start to bloom. To get to it we had to walk across a long foot bridge. Notice all of the lanterns lining  the  lake swamp.

We loved this charming little bell tower.

It was freeeeezing that morning.

So this was it. They have a huge, I mean huge, room downstairs with a large stone fireplace ( why, oh why! did they add gas logs… that’s criminal) that will probably seat 175 people for dinner.

Technically, the lodge is located in Andalusia, Alabama. If you have hunters in the fam they would love this place. It was a little too much of a man cave for me.

I think we counted 8 bedrooms and baths.

Don’t you have a train light in your hallway? haha

This reminded me of my sweet Granddaddy and made me smile. He would have liked it here.

So that was that. I love lichen covered logs, don’t you?

Jeff’s mom lived in Andalusia as a child but neither of us had ever been so we decided to check it out before hitting the road … again.

It is a beautiful little town!

It is built on a square which I love.

And on this day there was much going on in the square.

Many important people in town were in jail that day!

But it was for a good cause. 🙂

brrr, I told them that they went to a lot more trouble than we did with our “jail”. All the same, I was happy that I had raised all of my bail money before arriving and could enjoy the limo ride back to work.
